Color also described as Hello Yellow.  The bright yellow flower clusters, with this species, make a striking display.  As a northern native plant it will thrive in rocky, sandy soil and can be found in open fields and roadsides. Butterfly weed will not spread via underground rhizomes like Common M. but will  create more plants from the seeds. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eSowing.  Cold stratification is optional with this species. These seeds are ready to sow now or when in the Spring. The seeds need  light, moisture and warmth to germinate.  Seeds can also be started 6-8 weeks prior to planting outside after the ground has warmed. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eGrowing.  Keep the young plants well watered for the first year. A well established plant can withstand drought but not soggy conditions like the Swamp M.
